Guide · Fine Pitch Technology
Everything you need to know about fine pitch LED displays — pixel pitch explained, COB vs traditional, applications, and how to choose the right specification for your project.
Fine pitch LED displays refer to direct-view LED panels with pixel pitches of P2.5mm and below — typically ranging from P0.9mm to P2.5mm. They represent the premium tier of LED display technology, offering image quality that rivals OLED and surpasses conventional LCD video walls in brightness, colour accuracy, and longevity.
Pixel pitch is the distance in millimetres between the centres of adjacent LED pixels. A smaller pitch number means more pixels per square metre — resulting in higher resolution and sharper images at closer viewing distances. P1.5mm means pixels are 1.5mm apart; P3.9mm means they are 3.9mm apart.
The rule of thumb: minimum viewing distance (in metres) ≈ pixel pitch (in mm) × 1.5. A P1.5mm display looks sharp from as close as 2.25 metres. A P3.9mm display requires at least 6 metres for comfortable viewing.
Standard LED (P3.9mm+) is cost-effective for large outdoor displays and rental applications where viewing distance is 5 metres or greater. Fine pitch (P2.5mm and below) is the specification for:
Standard LED packaging where individual R, G, B LED diodes are soldered onto PCB. Most cost-effective at P2.5mm+. Vulnerable to physical damage at very fine pitches.
LED chips encapsulated directly in resin without individual packaging — higher impact resistance, better heat dissipation, and superior contrast from the dark mask around pixels. Products like CVMini III Pro use fully flip-chip COB for 30,000:1 contrast.
Advanced LED packaging without bonding wires — enabling P0.4–P0.9mm ultra-fine pitch with higher efficiency. Used in CVMicro (P0.4–P0.7mm) for reference-grade home cinema and luxury installations.

For a typical boardroom viewed from 2–4 metres, P1.2–P2.0mm is the recommended range. P1.5mm is the most popular specification for executive environments — it delivers photographic image quality at boardroom distances while remaining cost-effective vs P0.9mm.
Fine pitch LED offers significantly higher brightness (600–1,200 nits vs OLED's 200–400 nits), far larger scalable sizes (OLED maxes at ~97" consumer grade; LED scales to any dimension), longer lifespan (100,000+ hours vs OLED's 30,000–50,000 hours), and serviceability at a module level. OLED wins on deepest blacks in dark viewing conditions. For most corporate applications, fine pitch LED is the superior choice.
A P1.5mm fine pitch LED wall (30 sq.ft / approximately 3m×0.9m), including panels, structure, installation, and 3-year warranty, costs approximately ₹3,50,000–₹5,00,000 all-inclusive. P1.2mm and P0.9mm carry premium pricing. Contact Cosmic View for a configuration-specific quote.
Yes, though maintenance is minimal. Front-access panels allow module replacement without wall dismantling. Typical MTBF for quality LEDs exceeds 50,000 hours (17+ years at 8hrs/day). Cosmic View recommends an AMC after the 3-year warranty period for commercial installations.
