LED Display Guide

What Is an LED Video Wall?

A complete guide to LED video walls — how they're built, how they work, and why they've become the display technology of choice for events, retail, broadcast, and advertising across India.

An LED video wall is a large-format display system made by tiling individual LED panel modules together to form a single, seamless screen. Unlike conventional TVs or projectors, there is no glass substrate, no backlight, and no bezel gap between panels — the display is the light source itself.

Key Components of an LED Video Wall

Every LED video wall consists of four core components working together:

  • LED Cabinets / Modules: The physical panel units, typically 500×500mm or 500×1000mm, containing the LED pixels. Cabinets are bolted together to form the full screen.
  • LED Pixels (RGB Clusters): Each pixel contains red, green, and blue LEDs. By varying the intensity of each colour, any shade can be produced. The distance between pixel centres is the pixel pitch — a key spec that determines resolution and ideal viewing distance.
  • Receiving Cards: PCBs inside each cabinet that receive the video signal and drive the individual LEDs. They control brightness, colour calibration, and refresh rate.
  • Video Processor / Sending Card: Takes the content source (PC, media player, HDMI signal) and maps it across all receiving cards simultaneously, creating a unified image across all cabinets.

Pixel Pitch: The Most Important Spec

Pixel pitch (measured in millimetres) is the distance between the centres of two adjacent pixels. A lower pixel pitch = higher pixel density = better close-up image quality.

Indoor vs Outdoor LED Video Walls

Indoor displays prioritise fine pixel pitch (P1.2–P2.5) and moderate brightness (800–1,500 nits) for close-up, high-resolution viewing in controlled lighting.

Outdoor displays need IP65 weatherproofing, high brightness (5,000–10,000 nits) to overcome direct sunlight, and coarser pixel pitches (P4–P10) because viewing distances are greater. They also require robust structural mounting systems to handle wind loads.

How Much Does an LED Video Wall Cost in India?

LED video wall pricing in India depends on pixel pitch, cabinet type, and installation complexity. Factory-direct pricing from Cosmic View starts from ₹50,000 per sqm for outdoor fixed installations and ₹80,000 per sqm for indoor fine-pitch solutions. See our full pricing guide →

Quick Answers

Frequently Asked Questions

What is the difference between an LED display and an LED video wall? +

An LED video wall is a type of LED display made by tiling multiple LED cabinet panels together to create one large seamless screen. A standalone LED display is a single unit, while a video wall is a modular system that can be scaled to any size.

Can an LED video wall be installed outdoors? +

Yes. Outdoor LED video walls use IP65-rated weatherproof cabinets, higher brightness panels (5,000–10,000 nits), and reinforced mounting structures. They are designed to operate in rain, dust, and direct sunlight.

What content can be shown on an LED video wall? +

LED video walls can display any digital content: live video feeds, pre-rendered animations, still images, slideshows, real-time data dashboards, live TV, and streamed content. They are driven by media players, PCs, or dedicated video processors via HDMI, DP, or IP streaming.

How is an LED video wall different from a projector? +

LED video walls are self-emissive — the LEDs produce light directly. Projectors throw light onto a surface, which washes out in ambient light. LED walls are far brighter, have better contrast, need no darkened room, and last significantly longer.
